WEEK TWO: DAY TWO
Being 5' 8 1/2", I’m on the taller side for women. And in boots or high heels, sometimes I feel like I tower over others, male and female alike. Growing up, I was always self-conscious about being tall. I hated sticking out -- or sticking up above the other kids in my class. And I hated being taller than all the boys. I think that’s where my slouching habit started. I’m a horrible sloucher. And I just have horrible posture in general.
But now my slouching habit haunts me. Not only does it look bad, but it starts to feel bad. Not wanting back troubles as I get older, I’ve decided that the bad posture needs to stop here.
That’s why I love this week’s challenge of yoga. The breathing and body awareness assignments have really helped me become aware of my posture. And Day Two’s sun salutation routine will help me stretch my back and strengthen it.
I am out of yoga practice and yoga shape, so I found holding downward dog for 5 full breaths difficult by my 4th time through the routine. My shoulders were definitely getting a workout, but the stretching in my back felt great.
I’m making a commitment to do 5 sun salutations every morning. I’m hoping it’s just the thing I needs to stop my poor posture. And if it gives me toned arms, a nice butt and that enviable yoga-lithe body to boot, well, I wouldn’t complain.

That's not tall! Try being 5'10"!!
my best friend is 5'11 1/2. I'm 5'3". In Puerto Rico they called us rice and bean. :)
My mom always wished I were taller. She thought being 5'10" would be great. That coming from a woman who's 5'5"; to her anything taller would be better.
P.S. I love the rice and bean names!
